HeppSY+ is part of a national programme funded by the Office for Students (OfS) to support young people most at risk of missing out on higher education. It stands for Higher Education Progression Partnership South Yorkshire Plus. HeppSY+ builds on the work of the existing Higher Education Progression Partnership (Hepp) involving Sheffield Hallam University, the University of Sheffield and the South Yorkshire colleges of further education.
Evidence shows that higher education participation of young people in our area is both low and much lower than expected based on GCSE-level attainment. Outwood Academy Shafton have been working with HeppSY to ensure that our students have opportunities to raise aspirations and make sure that our students are considering university as an option for them.
The goals of the programme are to double the proportion of students from target areas going into Higher Education, increase the number of students in Higher Education from Ethnic Minority backgrounds by 20% and to address the under-representation of male students from target areas attending Higher Education.
