Mrs Cara Ackroyd, Principal

After completing a PGCE in Secondary Science in 2007, I started my teaching career as Teacher of Physics and Chemistry at North Doncaster Technology College which would later become Outwood Academy Adwick, the first academy to be sponsored by Outwood Grange Academies Trust. Although I had only been teaching for 18 months at the time, I was promoted to Assistant Principal in Deep Learning and Deep Experience and led an award winning Student Voice. Over the years I have facilitated, on behalf of the Trust, on a number of National College programmes including OTP, ITP, NPQML and NPQSL.

After two years as Vice Principal Deep Learning, I moved across to Deep Support with leadership of Inclusion, Attendance and Behaviour and I also began to teach Maths instead of science. For the 18 months that followed I worked for the Trust as an Associate Principal working alongside the Principals in three new OGAT secondary academies in Barnsley and Chesterfield. In the first year working with these schools, there was a 19% average increase in the number of students gaining 5+ A*-C in English and Maths. I am passionate about teaching and learning and believe that every student deserves access to the very best teaching in every classroom. Education is the most powerful tool to change the world. Since September 2016 it has been my absolute privilege to lead and teach at Outwood Academy Shafton. It is an incredible and very special community to be a part of.

I spend almost all my spare time with my two wonderful children. I love to write, to read and to travel.
