I am delighted to be working with Outwood Academy Shafton as Associate Executive Principal.
Having completed my degree and PGCE in Business Studies at the University of Huddersfield, I secured my very first teaching position at Outwood Grange Academy in 2001 as a Newly Qualified Teacher. It became apparent to me, very early on in my career, that I wanted to be part of the decision making processes that drive schools forward, which provide students with an educational experience that can make them highly employable and respectable members of the local community. This vision has determined my career path to date and I have secured various leadership positions to provide me with a wealth of knowledge and experience needed to ensure that I can provide the very best quality of service for the students in my care.
Within the first two years of employment I became an Assistant Head of Year, then secured a Head of KS3 position and I joined the senior leadership team in 2004. In 2006 I became an Assistant Principal responsible for the pastoral care of students and teaching and learning. I was promoted to a Vice Principal position - Deep Support, in 2008 and continued in this role for 5 years. During these 5 years, I was blessed with 2 children of my own and embraced the challenge of being a senior leader in a large academy alongside the challenges of motherhood. On the very first day of returning from my second maternity leave on 1 March 2013, I became the Acting Principal of Outwood Grange Academy at the age of 34, having only been in the teaching profession for 12 years. More recently, I secured a permanent position as Principal of Outwood Grange Academy.
I am passionate about ensuring that every student achieves their full potential and I will endeavour to continue the upward trend of producing record-breaking results every year. Having worked at the Academy since 2001, I have seen generations of young people partaking in all the wonderfully varied experiences we provide, alongside gaining qualifications that has provided them with the very best life chance. In fact, the academy has employed a number of ex-students for various positions in the academy, which is proof of the great work we do. It is this balance between the academic and extra-curricular that makes this academy such a special place for the students and creates a highly professional environment for staff.
