Letter to Parents and Carers: Strike Action 8, 9, 10 July 2025

Wed 02 Jul 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,

Strike action for teachers

As I have previously communicated to you, the National Education Union (NEU) have confirmed that their teaching members will be taking industrial action in the form of strike days.  The next planned strike days are Tuesday 8 July,  Wednesday 9 July and Thursday 10  July 2025.

Following our risk assessment and due to the number of staff taking action, we have made the decision to open the academy to students as follows on Tuesday 8 July,  Wednesday 9 July and Thursday 10  July 2025:

We will update you again if anything changes.

Whilst the academy will be closed to some students, online activities via Google Classroom or access to educational materials whilst at home will be available to Year 7-10 students. Please encourage your child to access the online resources below to continue their learning:

• Science - science.outwood.com
• History - history.outwood.com
• Geography - geography.outwood.com
• Time Tables Rock Stars - https://ttrockstars.com

Students in all year groups in receipt of free school meals may attend between 12.30 and 1pm to pick up a grab bag. We will send out a text message for you to book this in advance.

We are still working extremely hard with trade unions to resolve concerns and there may be further updates to follow, however we wanted to be able to give parents reasonable notice to plan if their child is not due to be in school.

*In order to ensure that we can communicate any changes to these plans at short notice; which may include on the day itself, we are asking parents/carers to ensure that we hold up to date emergency contact details.  If you do need to make any changes, please send to our dedicated email address for this purpose enquiries@shafton.outwood.com  We will always endeavour to minimise disruption as much as possible.

We understand that there will be concerns about the disruption but we want to give you this advance notice as possible and thank you in advance for your patience and understanding at this time.

Yours faithfully,
Alison McQueen
Principal
