Dear Parents and Carers,
I wrote to you on
Friday 11 July in relation to uniform and equipment requirements in readiness for our return in September.
You will know that in recent years, a significant number of branded uniform items have been dropped from our uniform policy. This forms part of a wider initiative to improve inclusivity, comfort and affordability for families across our Trust. You may also know that a number of schools are moving to a uniform policy where skirts will be removed as a uniform option, with all students required to wear tailored school trousers regardless of gender. These changes support equality and inclusiveness while also being more practical for daily school activities.
We have received a number of concerns from parents and members of our community around the tidiness of our uniform, especially related to the standard of skirts.
Whilst we are not currently removing skirts from our policy, a significant number of students are opting to wear trousers given their more practical nature for school. If your child does choose to wear a skirt, I would like to take this opportunity to ask for your support in ensuring that they wear their skirt correctly and in line with our uniform policy:
-
No rolling over of skirt waistbands.
-
All skirts worn must sit on or just above the knee.
- Students should wear our Trutex uniform skirt (the twin pleat skirt) or if they choose to wear an unbranded skirt this must be the box-pleat style skirt. A minimum 2.5-inch box pleat.
Any students wearing their skirt incorrectly will not be permitted entry into the academy until this is rectified.
Throughout the day students making incorrect choices around skirts will be asked to correct and an appropriate sanction will be given.
A disproportionate amount of time is spent supporting students with correcting their uniform. I know that you will agree with me that this time could be better spent supporting students with their learning.
Thank you in advance for your support.
Yours faithfully,
Alison McQueen
