Letter to Year 8 Parents and Carers: HPV vaccination

Mon 15 Dec 2025
Barnsley School Aged Immunisation Service have asked us to share that your child’s HPV vaccination is now due.

As part of the UK routine Childhood Immunisation Programme, they are offering the HPV vaccine to your child. The HPV virus increases the risk of developing some cancers later in life such as cervical cancer, some mouth and throat cancers and some cancers of the anus and genital areas.

The HPV vaccination protects against the HPV virus, thus preventing several types of cancer. As of September 2023, the HPV vaccination programme has changed from 2 doses to 1 dose, as evidence suggests that 1 dose has been shown to be just as effective as 2 doses at providing protection from HPV infection.

Please take a look at the leaflet The universal HPV immunisation programme and discuss this with your child then visit HPV Vaccination Consent Form to fill in a consent form. The school code is: BN139211

Please let the team know if you require the information in other languages or easy to read .

If you decide not to protect your child against HPV, please fill in the consent form explaining the reason for your decision. This will help us plan and improve the service.

The Immunisation Team will be visiting Outwood Academy Shafton on 29th January
