DfE SEND Review: Right Support, Right Place, Right Time

Fri 10 Jun 2022
In 2019, the government announced it would carry out a review of the special educational needs and disability (SEND) system in England. This was five years after the introduction of major reforms to the SEND system in 2014.

The SEND Review sought to find ways to ensure the SEND system is consistent, high quality and integrated across education, health and care.

The aims of the review were to:
●               Find ways of improving services available to families;
●               Help staff in schools and colleges to respond effectively to local needs;
●               End the postcode lottery of services families often face.

The government has now completed the SEND Review. On 29 March 2022, it published what it thinks should happen next in the SEND and Alternative Provision (AP) Green Paper, paving the way for legislative change and they are keen to hear your voice as part of the consultation.

I would encourage you to reflect on the proposals set out in this green paper and respond to the consultation. Together, we can ensure every child and young person with SEND and those in alternative provision can thrive and be well prepared for adult life. The academy will be happy to support you with completing the consultation by contacting our SENDCo, Mrs Leanne Burgin. Alternatively, you could contact your parent/carer service advertised on your local authority’s Local Offer..

Below is a QR code for your convenience which will take you directly to the consultation to offer your voice. Please note, the consultation will close on 22 July 2022.
