GCSE Geography

Thu 20 Oct 2022
Dear Parents and Carers,

We are delighted your child chose to study GCSE Geography. During the last two years they have developed the knowledge and understanding of geographical concepts and topics including Urban Challenges, Resource Management, Physical Landscapes, the Living World and Natural Hazards. Most recently in Y11 we have been able to consolidate their knowledge of their fieldwork enquiries by visiting Barnsley and looking at housing inequalities.

To support the course, and to ensure gaps from Covid absence are minimised, we have been providing home learning and enrichment opportunities. This is also to support the growing knowledge recall needed for all three exam papers in the summer. We are writing to ask for your support by regularly checking that your child has completed all their home learning to date and is attending enrichment on Friday’s.  This will enable them to practice exam questions which may appear on the mock assessments they have before the exam papers in the summer.  Please see below the topics which will be examined during the November practice exams.

Support is always available from their class teacher and they can be contacted via telephone or by using the following email addresses:

Your child can also access an array of support by using the geography.outwood.com website or by scanning the QR code on the attached letter. Thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing the impact of your child’s home learning in future assessments.

November Exam Practice

Paper 1 - Natural Hazards, Coasts, Living World
Paper 2 - Urban Issues, Resource Management

In preparation for the Paper 1 practice exam we have given all students a revision pack with key information that they will need to know.  It is up to them to use this as they see best.  They could begin by identifying areas of strength and weakness which can then be addressed by watching video tutorials or practising exam questions from our website.

Yours faithfully,
