Guns and Knives Take Lives Programme: Y7 & Y8

Fri 04 Nov 2022
Guns and Knives Take Lives Programme

Dear Parent/Carer,

On the 22nd November (Y8) and 28th November (Y7), we are very lucky to host South Yorkshire Police to deliver their Guns and Knives Take Lives Programme.

We have had the pleasure of hosting this Programme in previous years, and they have now delivered this session over 300 times to approximately 60,000 children across the South Yorkshire region.

The Programme will be delivered in year group assemblies during the morning, and each will look at the issues and implications of carrying both knives and guns. The session will also draw on the experience of a Police Officer serving with South Yorkshire Police and first hand involvement in working with those who are involved with associated crimes.

The Guns and Knives Takes Lives Initiative, provides an hour long effective and impactive presentation, which educates students in years 7 and 8 on the dangers of carrying and using these weapons as well as the following topics:

  • Law on knives (Operation Sceptre – Knife Crime/ Practical advice
  • County Lines
  • Law on guns (Advice on disposal of weapons)
  • Consequences
  • Graphic imagery (warning given before showing, just one image of a scar on a head)

If there are any issues with the above, or any reasons that you think your child should not attend the 1 hour Programme, please contact Mrs Riley on s.riley@shafton.outwood.com

Yours faithfully

Mrs Riley
