Dear Parent/Carer
Year 10 workshops – The Speakers Trust – 22nd May
We are delighted to be working with The Speakers Trust on the 22nd May who will be delivering workshops for 60 Year 10 students. Almost 50% of students in Yorkshire start our workshop saying they had no confidence in speaking up in front of a group of people. This number is higher than in any other part of the country, and our mission is to change this. Thanks to their generous funders, 3i, Paydyn and The Keith Howard Foundation they are able to provide FREE and subsidised public speaking and communication training to up to 3,000 Year 10 students across state schools in Yorkshire this academic year.
By giving young people a voice, they improve their education and employment prospects, they amplify unheard studies to bring communities together. The Yorkshire Speak Out Challenge Programme aims to make a huge different in the lives of young people and the wider community.
To get involved please complete the google form, the link for this has been sent to you by text.
Every student receives a one-day public speaking workshop with one of their expert communication skills trainers. During the training, students are given the skills and the confidence to develop and deliver a speech on a topic they feel passionate about. 81% of students participating in the workshops reported having learned skills they can apply in the next stage of their education, training and employment. The aim of the training is to increase young peoples’ confidence and sense of agency and amplify their voices.
If your child would like to be considered for the workshop please complete the google form. As numbers are limited we may have to put names in a hat to select the 60 students if we are over-subscribed.
Yours faithfully
Mrs S Riley
