Dear Parents and Carers,

This letter provides an update regarding the upcoming strike action affecting our school. We understand that this news may cause concern and appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate these challenges.

Further to our previous communication, the National Education Union (NEU) will be taking industrial action.

You will know from local press and other media outlets that the NEU plans to continue strike action into the last week of term.

The next confirmed strike days are:

  • Monday, 14 July 2025: NEU
  • Tuesday, 15 July 2025: NEU
  • Wednesday, 16 July 2025: NEU
  • Thursday, 17 July 2025: NEU

School Opening Plan for week commencing 14 July 2025
Following a thorough risk assessment and considering the number of staff participating in the action, we have made the decision to open the academy to students as follows for Monday, 14 July, Tuesday, 15 July, Wednesday, 16 July, and Thursday, 17 July 2025:

We will update you again if there are any changes to these plans.

Online Learning Resources
For Year 7-10 students who are not required to be on site, online activities via Google Classroom or access to educational materials will be available. We strongly encourage your child to continue their learning by accessing the following resources:

Free School Meals
Students in all year groups who are in receipt of free school meals may attend the academy between 12:30 PM and 1:00 PM to pick up a grab bag. We will send a text message for you to book this in advance.

Staying Informed
We are still working diligently with trade unions to resolve concerns, and there may be further updates to follow. However, we wanted to provide you with reasonable notice to plan for your child if they are not due to be in school.

To ensure we can communicate any changes at short notice, including on the day itself, we kindly ask parents/carers to ensure that we hold up-to-date emergency contact details. If you need to make any changes, please send them to our dedicated email address: enquiries@shafton.outwood.com. We will always endeavour to minimise disruption as much as possible.

We understand that there will be concerns about this disruption, but we want to give you as much advance notice as possible. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding at this time.

Yours faithfully,

Alison McQueen
Principal
