Knowledge makes Legends: The Outwood Science Master’s Competition 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
We are delighted to announce the launch of the Science Master’s, an exhilarating Trust-wide competition designed to challenge our students’ scientific knowledge, reward their curiosity, and celebrate the wonders of the world around us.
This is a premier event in the Outwood Grange Academies Trust calendar, where students from every Outwood school go head-to-head in a battle of wits. The competition pushes beyond the standard curriculum, testing both what students have mastered in the classroom and their independent interest in how the universe functions.
How the Competition Works
The Science Master’s consists of three rounds this academic year. The first round is scheduled to take place during the week beginning 18th May, second round, week beginning 15th June and final round for this year week beginning 6th July.
Each quiz is divided into two distinct challenges:
Section A: The Academic Core – This section focuses on topics students have already covered in their science lessons. To ensure every student has the opportunity to excel, revision materials and practice questions will be uploaded to their Google Classrooms in advance.
-
Section B: The Discovery Zone – This section tests broader scientific awareness and "super-curricular" knowledge. The themes for this year’s rounds are:
-
Round 1: Dinosaurs and Space
-
Round 2: Tropical Sea Life and Natural Resources
-
Round 3: Garden Wildlife and Science Disaster Films
Rewards and the Path to "Jedi" Status
We believe in celebrating academic endurance and excellence. At the conclusion of the final round, scores will be aggregated across the year. Based on their performance, students will be eligible for prestigious Honours Badges at the following levels:
- Bronze
- Silver
- Gold
- Diamond
For those who demonstrate truly exceptional scientific prowess, there is a pinnacle achievement. Students who rank in the Top 100 across the entire Trust will be awarded the highly coveted Science Jedi Master Honours Badge—a mark of elite distinction within our academies.
How You Can Support
We encourage you to speak with your child about the upcoming themes for Section B and encourage them to access the revision resources in their Google Classroom for Section A. Whether they are future astronomers, paleontologists, or simply curious minds, this competition is a fantastic platform for them to shine.
We look forward to seeing our students rise to the challenge and showcase the incredible scientific talent.
Yours faithfully,
The Science Department
