Letter to Y7 & Y8 Parents and Carers: RS Assessment

Dear Parents and Carers,

Upcoming Religious Studies Assessments: Years 7 & 8

I am writing to inform you that students in Year 7 and Year 8 will be completing their Religious Studies assessments between Monday 14th September and Friday 25th September.

These assessments are designed to check students' understanding of the core concepts, traditions, and themes covered so far this term, as well as to help us support their ongoing progress.

Assessment Structures and Content

Both year groups will complete an assessment consisting of 10 multiple-choice questions to test core knowledge, followed by two essay questions evaluating deeper understanding and analysis.

Year 7 Assessment

Students will be tested on the foundational themes they have studied this term:

  • What is a religion, a belief, and a worldview?
  • The origins of religion.
  • Abrahamic religions and their shared connection.
  • Dharmic religions and their shared connection.

Their knowledge will be tested through a series of multiple choice questions. They will then answer two essay questions. 

Essay Topics:

  1. The influence of specific Christian teachings (e.g., forgiveness).
  2. How adhering to a religion can impact an individual's daily life.

Year 8 Assessment

Students will be tested on their studies of Hindu traditions:

  • The origins of Hindu traditions.
  • Early teachers and sacred stories in Hindu traditions.
  • Key sacred texts and fundamental teachings in Hindu traditions.

Their knowledge will be tested through a series of multiple choice questions. They will then answer two essay questions. 

Essay Topics:

  1. Identifying and explaining religious symbols.
  2. Analyzing how religions evolve and change over time.

How Students Can Prepare

To help your child perform to the best of their ability, we recommend they review their RS Google Classroom with a particular focus on this half-terms knowledge organiser on the lead up to the assessment period. Focus should be placed both on quick-recall facts for the multiple-choice section and on structuring clear, well-supported arguments for the essay responses.
