Letter to Parents and Carers: The TIDE ATP Project

Wed 04 Nov 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,

As part of our commitment to transparency regarding how we handle your personal data, we are writing to inform you that the school will be working with the National Institute of Teaching (NIoT) on the TIDE ATP Project to help our Early Career Teachers improve their skills through high quality mentoring.

As part of this training, teachers use a secure tool to record short sections of their lessons. Here is how we protect your child’s privacy:

  • Focused on the Teacher: Cameras face the front of the room to capture the teacher, not the students. Pupil voices are only recorded incidentally during class discussions.
  • Emergency Stop: Teachers can stop and instantly delete a recording at any time during a sensitive classroom moment.
  • 30-Day Deletion: All raw video and audio files are permanently deleted within 30 days.
  • Full Anonymity for Research: Recordings are converted to text, and all names or identifying details are removed by both AI software and human reviewers before being used to train educational AI tools.
  • No Pupil Tracking: These recordings are never used to assess, grade, monitor, or track individual children.

Your Right to Opt Out While video reflection is a key part of teacher training, you can opt out of having your child’s classroom data used for wider AI research. Because individual voices are not tracked or isolated, an opt-out request will remove the entire class's recordings from the research pool. To opt out, please contact j.goldthorpe@shafton.outwood.com

For comprehensive information on this processing, please view the Full NIoT Privacy Notice.

Yours sincerely,

Alison McQueen
Principal
