Year 11 Expectations

Mon 11 Sep 2023
Dear Parent/Carer

Last week marked the beginning of the last leg of your child’s five year journey at Outwood Academy Shafton, working towards the exceptional outcomes that we know they are capable of and continuing to construct the character that will enable them to be able to contribute to society.

On Wednesday we held your child’s first assembly as Year 11 in which we spoke to all students about what they have in store in their final academic year at Shafton as well as the high expectations we will have of them.

One of our main focus points was the Year 11 Prom and the criteria which will be used in order for your child to earn their invitation. In order to ensure that you are aware of our expectations, we would like to share with you that criteria so that you can support your child in making the right choices each and every day. Attendance at the Class of 2024 Prom is not a given, it is a privilege and has to be earned. Therefore this year's criteria is as follows:

  • 94%+ attendance (extenuating circumstances will be considered)
  • An exemplary behaviour record
  • No suspensions
  • 100% attendance to ALL their summer examinations
  • Completion of a prom passport in the final term

Regardless of anything that has come before, your child now has a fresh start and the opportunity to earn all of the privileges that are forthcoming in what will be the most challenging, but rewarding academic year of their lives thus far.

Yours faithfully,

Tom Peel
