Letter to Parents: 11 September 2023

Mon 11 Sep 2023
Dear Parents and Carers,

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your support in ensuring that your children, our students, returned last week in full uniform and equipped ready to learn.

Year 7 have settled in so well, a real credit to their families and their primary schools; absolutely outstanding manners and impeccably dressed.

Year 8, 9, 10 and 11 have continued with their step-up and are acting as great role models to our new students.

As a community, we all want the best possible education for the children that we serve and in order to secure this we must continue to maintain our high standards and maximise curriculum learning time.

In addition to core learning time, we offer a raft of enrichment opportunities and we encourage students to attend as many different enrichments as they would like to. This is especially important for our Year 10 and Year 11 students who will be able to enhance their lesson-based learning alongside extension work which will further support with revision and exam preparation.

We will continue to monitor lost learning time both in terms of attendance at school and time lost due to students repeatedly attending lessons late and repeatedly attending toilets during lesson time; you will receive written notification if your child loses more than 20 minutes learning time per week.

We will be continuing with our weekly celebrations of student success whether that is celebrating student work on #ProudThursday, congratulating students on their Random Acts of Kindness, celebrating good attendance or recognition from staff for a student to receive a Principal’s postcard.

You can catch up on all things Shafton via our (X) Twitter account @OutwoodShafton

Yours faithfully,
Alison McQueen
Principal
