End of Spring Term 2022: Letter for Families

8 April 2022

Dear Parent/Carer,

As the Spring term draws to a close I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your support during what has been a very difficult time for the academy in terms of being able to stay open for all years groups every day. I am so incredibly proud of the way our students have adapted quickly to these changes and to the resilience that they continue to display. I cannot thank you, our families, enough for supporting us with home learning when we have had to enforce partial closures.

It will be a pleasure to see our young people all return back to school on 25 April ready for the final term and the challenges that lay ahead and we cannot wait to get started this term, ensuring our consistent learning routines, high expectations, praise and rewards are once again firmly embedded.

We are also excited to welcome the students who have selected to attend Outwood Academy Shafton next year as part of our transition.  We will be in contact shortly to discuss uniform arrangements and the up and coming events.

As we move into a new term, I wanted to once again highlight the expectations we have of students when they return:

  • Over the next few weeks we will be working with Y11 students to ensure that they are focussed, calm and ready to start their formal exams.  It is important that students maintain high levels of attendance and attend the enrichment sessions planned to support their progress.

  • Specifically with our Y10 students we will be working on a step up programme, ensuring that all our students are ready and prepared as they step up to Y11.

  • The new term will see timetable changes for Year 7 classes, as we start to prepare our classes for Y8. Timetables will be distributed in forms during our first day back.

  • All students should return to school equipped with, pen, pencil, ruler and planner.  Students will be asked to present these items when they arrive at school on their first day back and every morning as they arrive.  Those who do not have the equipment will be issued with a loan set for the term which they are responsible for.  This is to make sure we are not wasting time handing out equipment and students are ready to learn.

  • As the weather is warmer, students will no longer wear non-uniform jumpers in the academy and can only wear a school jumper which is part of the uniform or purchase a back plain knitted V neck jumper.

  • Students should be in the correct full uniform, guidance is in the school planner and also on the website.  If anyone is struggling with purchasing a uniform there is a fund available to support and that can be found here.

  • As you will know, we moved C4a detentions to lunchtime during the pandemic, when we return after Easter, we will be moving C4a detentions back to after school, i.e. 2:30 - 3pm. C4b detention remains after school, i.e. 2:30 - 3:30pm.

I hope that you have a safe and relaxing Easter break; thank you for your support as ever.

Yours faithfully,

Alison McQueen
